The First Book
I have always loved to write. Whether a poem, a story, or a post, words allow me to capture a memory, express my feelings, and inspire reflection. Christmas 2019, I wrote a devotional book for my two eldest grandchildren who had recently accepted Christ and been baptized. My desire was to help them focus on how the decision to follow Christ is represented in their actions and behavior. Their salvation is irrefutable, but how they fill their mind – what they choose to hear, see, and reflect upon, and how they respond to others is a vital part of their Christian walk. I quickly discovered writing a book for your grandchildren and preparing one to be published were overwhelmingly different processes. A few sweet words of encouragement along with adorable photographs of the grands, and you are in business with a unique Christmas gift. But, that book certainly wouldn’t work in the publishing world. The idea behind the grandchildren’s devotional book received praise and encouragement from friends and family, so the pursuit to publish began. In the months that followed, I studied the process of publishing and gained insight from the experience found in a mastermind community.
